Park, Recreation, Open Space Plan Update Process
The City of Ellensburg is in the process of updating our Park, Recreation, and Open Space Plan. When completed, this document will be used as our department roadmap for the next 10 years.
Questions we will look to answer in developing new master plans for these park facilities include; “How is the park used by the public?”, “What time of day/season do certain uses occur?”, “What is noteworthy and distinctive about the park?”, “What are the opportunities & constraints of each park?”, and “What Program Elements in the Concept Master Plans, do we support, not support, and/or want to modify?” Through this process we’re hoping to develop each park to fulfill and exceed the needs of Ellensburg residents!
In order to assist us with this process the City has hired Arvilla Ohlde, from AjO Consulting and Bob Droll, of Bob Droll Landscape Architects, to assist us with this process.

Scope of Work
Key components of the park update process include: looking back over the last 10 years to determine what changes have taken place in the City of Ellensburg with regards to parks and recreation programs, what are our current parks and recreation needs, and to look at our future and determine department priorities and objectives, as well as develop a wish list of programs and facilities for our park system.Park Master Plan Development
In addition to looking at the programmatic and operational side of our how department functions, we will be reviewing five existing park facilities and developing an updated park master plan for each of these facilities. These facilities include: Kiwanis Park, Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Lions Mt. View Park, and Reed Park.Questions we will look to answer in developing new master plans for these park facilities include; “How is the park used by the public?”, “What time of day/season do certain uses occur?”, “What is noteworthy and distinctive about the park?”, “What are the opportunities & constraints of each park?”, and “What Program Elements in the Concept Master Plans, do we support, not support, and/or want to modify?” Through this process we’re hoping to develop each park to fulfill and exceed the needs of Ellensburg residents!
