Long Range Planning

The long range planning group works on projects and plans that may take several years to fully implement. Long range projects are often initiated by City Council and include check-ins with Council and Planning Commission as well as public outreach and engagement.

Comprehensive Plan Amendments and Review

The Community Development Department is responsible for maintaining Ellensburg's Comprehensive Plan, a 20-year plan that articulates the community's vision and is a reflection of community  values. Annual amendments to the Comprehensive Plan are conducted once a year in order to respond to changing circumstances or needs of the City. Full review of the Comprehensive Plan is conducted every 8 years in accordance with the provisions of the Growth Management Act.

Land Development Code Amendments

The Community Development Department is responsible for maintaining Ellensburg's Land Development Code, a principal document for implementing the goals and policies of the Comprehensive Plan. An amendment to the Land Development Code is a mechanism by which the City may bring its land use and development regulations into conformity with the Comprehensive Plan or respond to changing conditions or needs of the City.
